COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
All series of classes are six weeks, two hours long, and consist
of at least one hour of card play.
BASIC CLASSES
BASIC BRIDGE:
For the new player or those who have "played at it."
Also recommended for those who haven't played for a long time.
PREINTERMEDIATE:
A sequel to Basic Bridge. Lots of play practice, review, and exposure to more bidding information and card play hints.
INTERMEDIATE CLASSES
PLAY OF THE HAND:
Focuses on the techniques of card play for the purpose of learning
how to approach a hand logically and to develop the best line
of play. Basic principles of defense are also covered. This class
offers such a wealth of information that many people take it several
times.
INTERMEDIATE I BIDDING:
Covers Stayman, overcalls, takeout doubles & responses, and forcing
bids. This class is a most important intermediate-level class
on bidding and is highly recommended as a class to take more than
once.
THE NEXT STEP (Intermediate Plus)
REMEMBERING THE MEANINGS OF BIDS:
We will practice effective techniques to improve your memory on the bidding you have learned. Also, a section on manners and proprieties at the bridge table.
BECOMING A BETTER CARD PLAYER:
Improving declarer play is a subject we can all keep working on to make noticeable improvement. In this day and age there are top notch tools available for aiding with the process. I continually work at improving my own declarer play.
INTERMEDIATE II BIDDING:
Two sessions each on: 1. Coping when the opponents enter our auction. 2. Preempts: both opening and when the opponents have previously opened. 3. Identifying slam situations and helpful tools in bidding them--both NT and Suit.
ADVANCED
If you are new to my classes, please call before signing up for an advanced class because it may not be meaningful without sufficicent knowledge or experience.
MATCHPOINTS:
Information that is almost guaranteed to improve your score in pair games. Includes competing, sacrificing, doubling for penalty, taking an extra trick, and keeping focus.
RECOMMENDED ORDER OF CLASSES:
1. BASIC BRIDGE
2. PREINTERMEDIATE
3. PLAY OF THE HAND
4. INTERMEDIATE I BIDDING
(Intermediate I Bidding should be taken before any
more-advanced classes.)
